Sport and culture: #UEalGiro d’Italia
28 May 2018
This year there’s a new cool feature to the Giro d’Italia: a camper van, organised by a European Commission Representation, will follow all the stages in order to promote sport and illustrate the results of European policies on the ground.
By following the hashtag #UEalGiro you can explore different places and, keeping up with the Giro, retrace projects and activities created thanks to the contribution of the European Union and linked to the European year of cultural heritage.
The Italian stages of the Giro d’Italia pass through dozens of natural and artistic sites that have been restored, enhanced or rebuilt by the European Union: from the Reggia di Venaria Reale Savoy residence, the Giffoni Multimedia Valley and the archaeological area of Pompei, to the ceramics museum of Faenza, the basilica of St. Benedict in Norcia and the trenches of World War I in Friuli Venezia Giulia.
In addition, day by day the camper van will provide information on European policies on the environment, sport, health, sustainable mobility and food safety.
The Giro will set off from Catania (8th May) and finish in Rome (27th May). See the full route.
