An Ode to Joy for the European Year of Cultural Heritage: the #Ode2Joy challenge
26 Apr 2018
“Let yourself be inspired by Beethoven’s Ode to Joy, symbol of the European Union, create your version, record it and share it on social media”. This is Placido Domingo’s invitation as president of Europa Nostra (the ‘voice’ of European Cultural Heritage) to all European people launching the #Ode2Joy challenge on the occasion of the European Year of Cultural Heritage.
How can you take part? By recording the original score or creating your own personal version of the Ode to Joy, perhaps in one of Europe’s many cultural sites: a small church, an ancient theatre, a park or a museum in your home town. The next step is to record your composition and share it on social media using the hashtag #Ode2Joy on 9th May, on Europe day. The best and most creative contributions will be shown to the public at the European Cultural Heritage Summit in Berlin on 18th to 24th June 2018.
The challenge is open to professional and amateur artists, individual citizens or groups and schools are especially encouraged to take part.
And if you can’t play an instrument or sing, as Placido Domingo says in his presentation video “dance, act, take a photo, draw or create a comic strip”.
