On the occasion of the European Year, the archaeological site of Kaukana from the Byzantine era, which had been closed for over a decade, can now be visited free as a place for summer cultural entertainment. An outcome issued by the Regional Superintendency of Cultural Heritage and Sicilian Identity of Ragusa assigned to the “Kaukana Archaeological Zone Committee” which took – in the form of voluntary service – the burden of safeguarding, promoting and enhancing the archaeological site.
The initiatives include: the restoration of plants, ordinary maintenance, daily openings in summer, the agreements for work-school alternation projects; summer cultural programs, FAI days, guided tours.
