The Faenza Prize of the Italian Ceramic Art Competition has been a key moment in the cultural history of ceramic since 1938. It was initially held every year and since 1989, has been every two years, making Italy a global benchmark: 80 years running, 60 editions.
The MIC, International Museum of Ceramics in Faenza, hosts the meeting of ceramic cultures of every time and place: from age-old masterpieces to works by Picasso, through to the masters of the present day. Founded in 1908, it currently holds more than 60,000 ancient and contemporary ceramics, exhibited amid evocative architecture. The museum is listed by UNESCO as a site that promotes cultures of peace as an “expression of ceramic art in the world”.
