20 community ovens and 14 mills are put into operation to cook the black bread, a simple bread made of wheat and rye, which is only very lightly leavened. The programme also includes educational-sensory workshops, designed to bring children and young people closer to the methods of sowing rye and to the art of baking and its traditions.

The initiative is promoted by the Valle d’Aosta Region, Lombardy Region, Polo Poschiavo of the Canton of Grisons (CH) and Protected Areas of Ossola in the Piedmont Region and in Lombardy. It will be held in Valtellina and Valcamonica, with the participation of local communities, families and institutions and at the same time in the territories of the other Alpine regions involved.
